September 23, 2007 - Autumnal Equinox

It's the Equinox. I always liking writing on "special" days. Summer has officially come to an end. Thank God. It's been one hell of a summer.

And I mean hell in every sense of the word.

However, I was able to make my Blum's Coffee Crunch cake for the dinner party my mom had this past weekend!!! The "crunch part took me 3 times to perfect, but I eventually got the thermometer to 290 degrees before removing and adding the baking soda which caused it to foam & harden fiercely. So intense. The cake part was certainly a challenge, but it came out alright. Not quite the texture I was aiming for, but it was edible and people seemed to like it well enough =)

School's going to be interesting this year, and I can only hope that I'll be out in a quarter if all goes according to plan. I want to be out of there so badly it's not even funny. Not knowing where your life is going is terrifying, but I'll be damned if I can't make it work. I WILL make it work, I WILL swim, and I WILL fight.

So my creative impulses got the better of me, and I gave in. This layout features pictures from the Midnight Poison campaign (DIOR) that Eva Green (Casino Royale, The Dreamers, The Golden Compass, etc) was in. I loved the ad so much that I couldn't pass up the use of the pictures. It was absolutely stunning work, both on the part of the dress designer, down to the cinematography of the ad itself. Just gorgeous!

Life has been interesting. My grandparents came down for a visit, and were supposed to stay for 3 days total. Well, being as my grandfather has cancer, he was too weak to go to his class reunion (which was why they were leaving after 3 days). Now, there's a very interesting thing to know about my grandparents. After 72 hours, things go sour. They start to get anxious and my grandmother has a lovely habit of picking apart her fingers with her nails. It's awful. So once we hit the 72 hour mark, my grandmother started getting insanely frustrated with my mom who was trying to get her involved in her alternative treatment to cancer machine (the one that I've been helping my mom program & operate. It uses light and emits a certain frequency to destroy negative cells which is pretty darn cool).

So we were watching a movie while the machine was on, and my mom turned off the overhead lights so that the two lights wouldn't interact. Then the s*** hit the fan. And from there on out, they were at odds and things were so, so strained.

They were fighting all the way to the airport (what lane my mom should drive in, the air was too cold, the traffic was moving too slowly, and the list went on), and in the end, my grandmother lost her toenail when the luggage ran over it. The entire thing came off and she was bleeding everywhere. Fun stuff.

They left, and the universe was in order again. Sad, really. Afterwards, my mom decided to take me to a movie, and we saw Stardust (which was cute).

And then a few days later, I had the opportunity to see my friends and hang out a bit before I'm forced to go back to Riverside. Ick. If I could, I wouldn't. Not looking forward. However!! I intend to take a yoga class or two, maybe dancing, and learn to make this Blum's cake that's seriously the best thing I've ever tasted in my LIFE. Filling my time will be different, but I intend on making the absolute best of it. Because I can.

Argyle socks and cloches are included.

The new Coco Chanel Mademoiselle ad has been relased!! Of course, I wouldn't get this excited if it wasn't for the lovely and talented Keira Knightley! She replaced Kate Moss as the new face of Chanel No. 5. Very chic, very classy. I approve.

I cleaned out my closet, which doesn't sound too terribly amazing, but it took me over 6 hours because it hadn't been touched since HS. There were papers and books that I had saved (and not to mention binders) from way back when. In total, I threw out two white trash bags full, and one GIANT black bag full of things. I'm happy to announce that my closet now has a real floor, and lots of available space. I think it can live up to its name as walk-in closet now =)

Additionally, I dusted my shelves, and got everything in order. I think my room is the best its ever been. Even my hats are in order. And I plan on getting cloche hat before the quarter starts. I've adored them for ages, but haven't invested in one yet. That, and brand new hair - cut, colored, and shiny. Deep conditioned too, if I feel like it. I changed my part, and now I'm going to see a colorist. I'm excited! I think I'd like it like this:

Hot? I think so too. But with my hair, I won't go quite so red. Just enough to add some life and fire.

Lots of things are getting done. My car's been serviced, the house cleaned, my laundry in its entirety done, and all these little odds and ends. I've perfected lemon meringue pie, and I think I'm doing to try my hand at pecan. Let's see . . . what else? I finished "Alphabet of Thorn" which was a very strange book, but rather interesting in concept. Speaking of books, I found some old writing I did from decades past, and I think I can work with them, and hopefully get a manuscript together! It's a project, but one I'm really wanting (and have been wanting) to take on.
